A hundred thousand times people have made up fairy tales about how our future is grey, wretched, unattractive and necessarily filled with wolfish relationships. And, judging by the way history is moving, they will someday come true. Just according to which particular scenario? Borderlands, new project Gearbox Software, offers his own option.
It is based on a rather banal theme about the fact that in the distant 22nd century it became completely impossible to live on Earth, because there are catastrophically lacking resources, and there is no talk about oil at all. According to the developers, scientists have not come up with anything better than to launch city ships into different parts of space, filled with a huge number of people, who in the future would become colonists. Having left Earth, the colonists no longer had a chance of returning in the coming years: upon landing on any planet, the spaceship immediately becomes a city, within which comfortable living conditions are maintained. And then – be fruitful and multiply. The setting turns out to be frankly crazy, but the developers know better.
Moreover, they decided to consider the history of only one such colony. The planet on which the colonists found themselves turned out to be extremely similar to Earth in its climatic and most other conditions. But its size, distance from the nearest star, and other astronomical parameters were completely different, and as a result, local years were much longer than earthly ones. Days too. But there was nothing left for the travelers to do, and they began to settle in. It soon turned out that people arrived at the very beginning of spring, and it was at this time of year that local toothy creatures emerge from hibernation. The latter, without thinking for a long time, began to hunt homo sapiens, and they could not do anything concrete to oppose them.
As usually happens in https://casinor2pbet.co.uk/ such cases, panic arose in the colony. “And brother went to war against brother…” In general, everyone around became complete thugs, divided into groups and began to alternately fight with each other, then with the alien fauna. In general, our hero will wage an irreconcilable struggle with the latter throughout the game, but the human brothers will also get their nuts.
The developers call Borderlands a game in the RPS genre (Role-Playing Shooter), which means a deep implementation of the role-playing component in the gameplay. This will be expressed, first of all, in the standard set of experience for any RPG as you progress through. With each new level there will be an opportunity to improve old skills or gain new ones. This will be done in the Bioshock manner using special terminals.
Another feature that makes Borderlands similar to role-playing games is the number of weapons and how they will be generated. Initially, half a million types of all kinds of guns were announced, but now this figure has increased to 630 thousand! Actually used Diablo-a similar system: there are several classes of weapons, each barrel has different indicators and features that are generated completely randomly. T.e. the differences may be minimal, but if you’re very lucky… All items are displayed on the models of partners and enemies and can be picked up in case of victory (which allows you to determine your chances of winning in advance). When you hover, tooltips appear describing the characteristics of the item.
Also from Diablo a level building system has been adopted. They are expected to be generated randomly. Only in rare cases are they hand-made by level designers. How it will work? One can only guess. The sad experience of Hellgate: London guys from Gearbox doesn’t scare.
The base where the player can sell unnecessary clothes, receive quests and improve the performance of his car will be the city of New Heaven. And this is another one borrowed from the repeatedly mentioned "Diablo" element.
However, we will also meet original chips. Among them, today’s fashionable cooperative mode takes pride of place. Up to four players can fight together for life and freedom. It is promised that in some missions, solo playthrough will be strictly contraindicated, as masochistic, but specific examples of where exactly a team of four can prove themselves have not yet been presented. But it’s immediately clear what two players can do if they have a car. The harsh conditions of the game world are mentioned above, so it is pointless to be surprised that any vehicle carries a machine gun on board. During chases, one player can take on the function of the driver, and the second – the shooter. In addition, they will be able to change roles without stopping driving: the videos show how, right on the move, a machine gunner jumps behind the wheel, and his partner jumps to the trigger.
As for the technical part, nothing fantastic is expected here. The graphics, of course, are good, but not stunning, and the physics only works to more spectacularly show the opponents’ legs and arms coming off.
The exact release date of the game has not been announced. The publisher’s plans Take-Two Borderlands release is listed in fiscal year 2009. It starts this November.
